Volleyball Rules & Regulations

Player Requirements/Safety

-6 players on the court- a minimum of 1 female must be on the court at all times.
-Each player must down and complete their profile on the MemberMe App.
-League registration begins Friday January 14th.
-To determine who serves first the team captains will do rock paper scissors.

Scoring 

-Each game will consist of 3 sets.
-Sets are played to 25 points with rally point scoring (i.e., a point is scored on every serve).
-Each set must be won by 2 points, with a 27-point cap.
-1 point will be awarded for each set won.
-League placing will be determined by the total points a team earns throughout the season. If there is a tie, points for and against will be calculated to determine team ranking. 

Play

-A player may never block on a serve.
-No lifting, catching, holding, or throwing the ball.
-Maximum of 3 touches per side.
-If the ball lands on the line, it is in.
-Players may not hit the ball twice in succession.
-Tipping and hitting the ball is allowed.
-Players follow regular clockwise rotation; front line players may switch positions at the net after serve. New players are rotated in before the serve (i.e., players rotate positions from back right, to back left, to front left, to front right).
-Teams must switch sides after every set. 

Playing the Ball

-Players may play the ball off any body part.  
-If the ball hits the wall or ceiling, the play is dead and the other team receives the point and ball. 

Contacting the Net and Centre Line 

-Players cannot touch the net during play, if they do the other team will be awarded a point and the next serve.
-Players may cross the centre line as long as they don’t interfere with the play or contact another player.  

Serving 

-Balls will be played off of the net on a serve.
-A server may serve the ball from anywhere on the baseline.
-There is no maximum number of serves per player (i.e. they will keep serving until the point is lost).
-Players must serve behind the baseline.
-If a player steps past the baseline, the other team will be awarded a point and the next serve.
